Marching With Marshall Rest Point Areas



Double Lake Rec. Area Step-off Point 0800 6/12/10

Contact: Craig Bradford 936-537-6646

Facilities: This is a camp site with amenities, such as water, toilets, electricity, and swimming.

Directions: Take Hwy. 59 to Cleveland, TX, take FM 2025 about seventeen miles to FSR 210 (Watch for large sign), take a Right, and follow into DL Rec. Area.

Parking and Payment: If camping June 11th, please make arrangements; plan on paying $18.00 for the camp site and the parking of car. If you are going to leave your car over night for the duration of the March, then it will be $6.00 per day. You will need to tell the attendant you are with Marching with Marshall, so that they can tell you the area to park in.


Big Woods Hunter’s Camp Saturday June 12th

Facilities: Primitive. This is a large open area, where the Marchers will be able to set up tents, or bed rolls. Vehicles can be parked nearby for connivance.

Directions: Take Hwy 59 North to Cleveland, TX, and exit FM 2025 North towards Double Lake Recreation Area. Turn Left (West) onto FM 150, and proceed towards Evergreen. Right after FM 945, be prepared to make a Right (North) on John Warren Road (FSR 202). Follow for about 0.8 miles, camp sight will be on Right (North).

Parking and Payment: Support vehicles will park here, and others can if they are dropping off other Marchers. There will be no one around this area to watch your car if you plan on making the March and leaving your car. There is no payment for the use of this camp site.


Huntsville State Park Sunday June 13

Facilities: This camp will be water only, but here are other amenities such as swimming, fishing, and toilets.

Directions: Take I-45 North to Huntsville. Prior to gaining the city, you will exit, and cross over to Park Road 40, which will take you into the Park. Watch for the large Park sign five miles prior to city.

Parking and Payment: Let the front gate know you are with Marching with Marshall. You should be waved through without paying the entrance fee- please thank them, and then be told which area we will be camping in. Tent sites have been paid for, and will have water only, with no electricity.


Kelly’s Pond Monday June 14

Facilities: This is a primitive camp site, with picnic tables, and a small pond. There is one toilet, but no running water. The area is large and can accommodate a large number of vehicles and campers.

Directions: Take I-45 and head North to New Waverly. Make a Left (West) onto FM 1375 about nine miles, then make a Left (South) onto FSR 215. Follow for about one mile, turn Right on FSR 271 to Kelly’s Pond. Look for National Forest signs.

Parking and Payment: This is a non-payment camp site, with large area for parking.



FSR 219: Pick-up Area Tuesday June 15 1300

Facilities: Medium sized parking area

Directions: Head North to New Waverly on I-45. Make a Left (West) exit onto FM 1375, and head about 14 miles till FM 1375 ends, then take a Right (North/West) onto FM 149 and go four miles to FSR 219. Take a Left (South) and proceed about 50 yards to Parking Area on Left.

Parking and Payment: This is a no- cost area, but parking is limited. This is where we will finish the March. Rides back to the Double Lake Rec. Area need to be arranged before the March is finished, and everyone else is leaving to go home.
